Imagine you’re about to hit an animal while driving. Would you turn the steering to the nearby bushes or would you drive straight and kill the animal?
If you answered to drive over the bushes instead, why not use the same thought process for what we eat and wear? If we have the choice to live a fulfilling life by consuming plants, why harm animals that have nervous systems, pain receptors, and emotions just like us?
When we hear the word “vegan” for the first time, we think it’s a totally new concept or idea that has come from the West to India. You’ll be surprised to know that veganism is actually only a part of the bigger term “ahimsa” or non-violence for us Indians. Apart from not hurting or killing other beings, ahimsa in its true sense also includes non-violent thoughts and words. But, yes, it’s a fact that veganism has spread all around the world, especially recently, because of the efforts of compassionate and dedicated people in the West.
Vegan For the Animals

Only 8.5% of buffaloes
in India are male.
Males are often
slaughtered in
dairy farming.

Humans kill
more than
a trillion
fish every
year!

A chicken on
average is
killed at
just 45 days
of age.

Just like dogs, goats
understand names.
Just like dogs,
goats too don’t
want to die.

The will of a horse
or an elephant
has to be
broken to
tame them.

Honey is
honeybee’s food.
It is taken from
them and fed
sugar instead.
We breed and kill over 80 billion farm animals every year (not including aquatic life). If humans were killed at a similar rate, we would be extinct in about 37 days! Several reasons are perfect for going vegan, but going vegan should first and foremost be for the animals simply because it’s morally wrong to kill and eat or exploit innocent sentient beings. Our dominion over the animal kingdom is so cruel that if these animals could choose, they would choose not to be born at all.
Imagine the life of a chicken confined in a battery cage selectively and genetically modified to be a meat-making machine just to be killed for human pleasure. Or that of a cow/buffalo who makes milk for her newborn only for her child to be killed and her milk stolen for human use. Livestock Census 2019 shows that only 8.5% alive buffaloes in India are male. 91.5% are female. The reason for this staggering difference is simple: males don’t make milk, hence they are slaughtered for their meat and skin at around the age of 1! India is the second largest exporter of beef!
The killing of marine animals is so vast and huge that they are not even counted as individuals but are counted in weight and tons. Fish are also sentient beings and feel pain just as we humans feel pain and feel just as much pain as land animals.
Vegan For Your Health
A vegan diet improves your health and helps prevent and treat several diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. By eating a vegan diet, you will feel better and happier, and best of all you won’t be contributing to animal abuse. When you don’t consume death, suffering, and animal abuse your whole body changes and becomes healthier. Your eyes and skin clear up and you can even lose weight as a vegan if you chose to be a healthy vegan who eats healthy vegan food. Estrogen and hormones in the milk are suitable for a baby calf. We on the other hand are adults of a different species! Not to mention the illegal but rampant use of oxytocin injections in India to boost milk production! The pollutants and toxins in the ocean accumulate in the fish due to the process of bio-magnification.
Meat eating causes cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer, lung, skin, and breast cancer. It causes osteoporosis, atherosclerosis, acne, and diabetes. Meat, eggs, and dairy contain high cholesterol, and saturated fat which lead to clogged arteries, heart attacks, and strokes. Eating meat causes cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. It causes Alzheimer’s as well as kidney and bladder diseases and E. coli, and salmonella, and gives you high blood pressure. Meat eating also causes Parkinson’s disease, obesity, and erectile dysfunction. By going vegan you can prevent and cure all these diseases.
Vegan For the Environment
By going vegan you save an estimated 3700 gallons of water per day, around 15 kgs of grain and 40 square feet of forested land, and the equivalent of 9 kgs of CO2 every day. Animal agriculture is one of the biggest reasons for climate change. Forests globally, are cut down and burned to the ground just to create land for animal agriculture.
A vegan diet requires less fossil fuel, less water, and less land to grow and produce plants, vegetables, fruits, grains, and legumes than a meat-based diet and produces far less CO2 than a meat-based diet. All the cows that are bred into existence for the purpose of milk, beef and leather around the world, produce more methane whose greenhouse effect is more than all the transportation methods on the planet. This includes all the cars, planes, trucks, ships, and trains on the planet combined. One cow can produce more methane per day than the average pollution from one car. The methane that cows produce, which is a strong greenhouse gas, rises into the atmosphere and traps more heat from the sun than carbon dioxide.
Veganism can end world hunger
There are over one billion starving people, men, women, and children on the planet. Most of these people live in poverty-stricken developing countries. Animal agriculture and the production of animal-based products is one major reason for world hunger. As a global civilization, we have enough food to feed more than 10 billion people but instead of feeding the world’s grains and legumes to hungry people, those grains and legumes are fed to animals to raise them and fatten them up just so that they can then be killed for well off people like us.
Animals in the meat, eggs, and dairy industry, eat and need much more food than human beings. We will be able to feed every human being on the planet when everyone adopts a vegan or a plant-based diet. It makes absolutely no sense to breed animals into existence to then feed them the world’s grains and legumes and then kill them to eat them when we could use those grains to feed hungry people.
