Did you know that the beauty products you rely on for that perfect touch might be associated with cruelty? It’s true. Many of these products contain ingredients sourced from animals which makes them unethical. Here are some of the most common examples

Additionally, these products are also tested on animals for their reliability of usage on humans!! But you can take a deep breath and just relax because this is not the case in India!! India proudly banned animal testing for cosmetics in 2013 while also putting a ban on any import of cosmetics that were tested on animals.

Though several brands listed above are narrating a clean story, a lot of brands easily available in the market are blood-stained. How to Identify?
One easy way to ensure that no animal derived ingredients are used is to look for vegan AND cruelty-free logos. Make sure that the product explicitly mentions being both cruelty-free AND vegan. This is because, by “Cruelty-Free”, brands only indicate that they do not test on animals but they may use animal ingredients.
In India, some products are vegan and cruelty-free, but it is not mentioned on the packaging, Lookout for the vegetarian logo, then read the ingredient list OR verify the vegan and cruelty-free status on their official website.
You can also use zoobop.com. It is a great tool to find out if a brand is vegan and cruelty-free.

- Amazon/Flipkart and other ecommerce sites: Simply searching for “vegan” may show non-vegan products. To know whether a product is vegan, read the description or see the packaging for vegan logo in the product images. If the back of the product is not visible, check the images in customer reviews.
